Kix Brooks was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he hit the ground running and has never slowed down. He got into music at a young age, which eventually lead him to Nashville. In Nashville, he started his career writing hit songs for other artists such as the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Highway 101 and John Conlee. In 1990, Brooks teamed with Ronnie Dunn to form Brooks & Dunn, the highest-selling duo in the history of country music. They have sold more than 30 million records, won more than 75 major industry awards and have had 20 #1 hit songs.
In 2006, Brooks took over the hosting reins of the long-running syndicated radio program, American Country Countdown, where every week he counts country music’s Top 30 songs. The broadcast industry has taken note and honored him with the CMA National Broadcast Personality of the Year Award in 2009, 2011 and 2013, making him the first person to ever win a CMA Award in both the artist and broadcast categories.
Never one to stand still, Brooks ventured into the movie business with his production company Team Two Entertainment, where you will find him in front of and behind the camera. In July 2015, “Steak Out With Kix Brooks” premiered on the Cooking Channel. The series featured Brooks setting out across the country to find some of America’s best steakhouses.
Additionally, Brooks raises Beefmaster cattle on his farm just outside of Nashville and is also a founding partner of Arrington Vineyards – a highly successful winery and special events venue in Arrington, Tennessee. In 2016, Brooks released his first cookbook titled Cookin’ It with Kix.
Brooks continues to give back to his community through his involvement with organizations such as the Country Music Association, Operation Finally Home, Veterans Matter, Tennessee Tourism Board and the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. In December 2014, he was named the first recipient of the Country Music Association’s Humanitarian Award.
In 2015, after a five-year hiatus, Brooks & Dunn reunited and joined forces with their close friend Reba McEntire for Reba + Brooks & Dunn: Together In Vegas, a Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace. The extremely popular residency continues to sell out and be a fan favorite in Las Vegas.
