Actor and filmmaker Michelle Morgan is a second generation Canadian of Chilean decent. Due to her father’s career, Michelle’s family often had to move, and as a result she grew up in Calgary, Vancouver and Mississauga, Ontario. Michelle began acting in high school when she was invited to join the improv team. Her acting teacher and improv coach would prove to be inspirational and transformative to young Michelle. The team became provincial champions, and the experience inspired Michelle to pursue acting further.
Her career on camera began at age 15 when she attended an open casting call by FOX studios. This audition resulted in Michelle landing her first agent, and she slowly began to work in film and television. After high school, Michelle studied theatre and Classical Greek literature at the University of Toronto.
Michelle has been featured in numerous television series and feature films, including HEARTLAND, BATWOMAN, STARGATE ATLANTIS and THE GOOD DOCTOR. She appeared in her sister, Wendy Morgan’s feature film debut Sugar Daddy. Michelle also played the leading role in George A. Romeros’ Diary for the Dead. In 2007, when Michelle was tapped to play the starring role of Lou Fleming on HEARTLAND, she never dreamed the show would continue for 17 seasons, and be licensed in over 120 counties around the world.
Michelle began directing for HEARTLAND in Season 14. She directed episode 1407 “Find me in the Dark”. In Season 15, she was at the helm as Director for 1507 “Bluebird” and 1508 “Just Getting Started”. In addition to starring in HEARTLAND episodes for Season 16, she directed episode 1610, and upcoming episodes 1705 and 1706. Michelle’s first short film Mi Madre, My Father starring Stephen Amell, screened at festivals such as Hollyshorts, the Brooklyn Women’s Film Festival, and the Cannes Short Film Market. Her short film garnered two awards for best direction. Michelle looks forward to directing more television and film projects and has received Telefilm funding to develop her first feature film.
Michelle is a passionate advocate for women’s rights and has volunteered at women’s shelters across Canada for the past 18 years. She has served as the “I Am Courage” campaign ambassador for the Brenda Strafford Centre for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and the “My Homefront” campaign ambassador for Homefront, a Calgarybased nonprofit that serves victims of domestic abuse.
Michelle is a mother of three and loves the outdoors. She is trilingual (English, French and Spanish) and is an ancient Greek Culture enthusiast. She can be found with her family surfing in Tofino, snowboarding, hiking, practicing yoga, and attempting to run a gardening program at her children’s elementary school.
