Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup butter softened
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 3/4 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Chai Mix Ingredients:
- 2 teaspoons fennel, whole
- 2 teaspoons cloves, whole
- 1 tablespoon cardamom, ground
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon, ground
- 2 teaspoons ginger, ground
Directions:
1. Heat oven to 400 degrees.
2. Mix shortening, butter, sugar and eggs thoroughly. Measure flour, blend all dry ingredients; stir in.
3. Roll into balls approx. 1 1/2” to 2” in a mixture of 2 tablespoons of sugar and 2 teaspoons of Chai mix (see recipe below).
4. Place 2” apart on a parchment lined cookie sheet.
5. Bake 7 to 9

With a small food processor, grind up the whole fennel and cloves.
