Bonnie Somerville grew up in Brooklyn, New York and began performing in school productions at a young age. She attended Boston College as a theatre major and went on to study at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York City. At 18, she was discovered singing in a nightclub in New York City and landed a development deal with Interscope Records as a singer/songwriter. Somerville's first major acting role was starring as Lynn Danner, a singer/songwriter during the 1950s and 60s in the miniseries "Shake, Rattle and Roll," which aired on CBS. She went on to star in the comedy "In-Laws," opposite Dennis Farina, Jean Smart, and Elon Gold.
Among her notable television credits, Somerville has starred as Courtney Scott on "Grosse Point," appeared alongside Bradley Cooper on "Kitchen Confidential," and collaborated numerous times with creator Darren Star on "Cashmere Mafia," opposite Lucy Liu, Frances O'Connor, and Miranda Otto. She has also appeared on the hit television series "The O.C." and starred in the last season of "NYPD Blue." Audiences will remember Somerville as Ross' girlfriend Mona on "Friends."
Somerville's recent film credits include "How Do You Know," directed by James L. Brooks, the romantic comedy "The Ugly Truth," where she starred alongside Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler, "Nobody," executive produced by Josh Hartnett, and the independent comedy "The Best and the Brightest," where she appeared alongside Neil Patrick Harris and Amy Sedaris.
After completing the feature films "7 Below" with Val Kilmer and "Fire with Fire" with Josh Duhamel and Bruce Willis, Somerville starred in the 2013 CBS comedy series "Golden Boy."
As a singer-songwriter, Somerville wrote and performed the original song "Winding Road" on the soundtrack to Zach Braff's "Garden State," which won the Grammy for Best Soundtrack in 2005.
She continues to perform as a singer in Los Angeles. Her new EP is available on iTunes.
