Born in Victoria, British Columbia, Dan Payne grew up as an athlete and honor student. He attended the University of Calgary where he excelled on the volleyball team, eventually enjoying a stint as a professional volleyball player in Holland before discovering his passion for acting.
Payne’s extensive acting career started in London. While in London, Payne studied acting and performed on stage and in film. At 6’4’’, Payne realized that his unique size and accent were assets, and after five years abroad, found the success that gave him the confidence and desire to return home to Canada.
Payne’s career has blossomed since moving back to Canada. He has become a familiar face on television when he starred in the 2006 CTV sitcom “Alice I Think.” He has also guest starred on “Dead Like Me” and “Just Cause” and has had guest-starring appearances on “Stargate SG1,” “Stargate: Atlantis,” “Smallville,” “The L Word,” “Battlestar Galactica,” “The Chris Isaac Show” and two Muppet movies: “A Very Muppet Christmas” and “The Muppets Wizard of Oz.”
Payne is also not a stranger to feature films; He had a role in the feature film “John Tucker Must Die,” starring Jesse Metcalfe and directed by Betty Thomas. His other film credits include “Watchmen,” “Cabin in the Woods” and “Icarus,” among others.
